Oyo High Adventure Expeditions

Oyo High Adventures operates out of Camp Oyo near Portsmouth, Ohio.

“Delivering the Promise” of Scouting is one of the challenges that face many Troops, Teams and Crews. Teenagers have a real need to seek the thrill of living on the edge and a desire to push the envelope of their own limits.  The Oyo High Adventures program has been developed to add fun, adventure, and personal growth, and to help put more “outing” into Scouting.  The Oyo High Adventure program was created to further service the Scouting community by providing an alternate activity for older Scouts and more experienced troops.

Teenagers have a real need to seek the thrill of living on the edge and a desire to push the envelope of their own limits.  We are proud to announce the launching of Oyo High Adventure Expeditions, based out of Camp Oyo near Portsmouth, Ohio, for Scouts who are at least 13 or have completed the 7th grade.

Oyo High Adventures offers an exciting menu of overnight canoeing, cave exploring, white-water rafting, backpacking, advanced shooting sports, Shawnee Indian culture, motor boating, and water skiing opportunities.

Scouts may participate individually, or your troop can organize its own crew for a real trek experience.

All expeditions begin on Sunday afternoon with arrival and an equipment shake down. After dinner there is some additional time for crew planning and preparations before a fun opening campfire.

Ohio Rivers Expedition. Monday and Tuesday you will spend half days waterskiing on the Ohio River and half days swimming, shooting and having fun at Camp Oyo. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday will be a canoe excursion down the Scioto River. Cost is $250 per person.

Wild Water Expedition. Monday morning enjoy the Discover SCUBA program before heading to West Virginia. After an overnight campout, Tuesday’s fun is rafting on the New River. Wednesday will be split between waterskiing on the Ohio River and swimming and shooting at Camp Oyo. You will then enjoy a canoeing excursion on the Scioto River on Thursday and Friday. Cost is $350 per person.

Frontier Expedition. Explore the Scioto River by canoe on Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday morning you head to Carter Caves in Kentucky for three days of cave exploring. Cost is $250 per person.

Lewis & Clark Expedition. Discover the Scioto River on a canoeing excursion Monday through Wednesday morning. With a brief gear swap on Wednesday, you are off on a two-night backpacking trek through the Shawnee State Forest. Learning about GPS Land Navigation on the trail, find your way back to Camp Oyo on Friday afternoon. Cost is $250 per person.

Covert Operations Expedition. Intelligence does not allow us to tell you much about this one, except that it is action-packed! Covert operations will include backpacking, SCUBA, Leave No Trace, waterskiing, swimming and shooting. Cost is $290 per person.

Native American Expedition. After a morning of Leave No Trace, you will depart for explorations of Carter Caves in Kentucky, returning Wednesday evening. Thursday and Friday you will become inhabitants of our own Indian Village. Cost is $250 per person.

Expeditions return to Camp Oyo Base on Friday Afternoon in time to clean up before our Expedition Feast and Awards Campfire on Friday evening. Departures for home are Saturday morning.

Watch for Oyo High Adventures to grow in future years with additional program elements such as kayaking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and climbing and rappelling.

Boy Scout Summer Camp Combo

Many Troops coming to Camp Oyo use Oyo High Adventures as a special opportunity for their Venture, Varsity, or older-Scout Patrol.  The program is designed such that troops can travel to and from camp together, while the program fits the needs of different groups within the troop.  Younger Scouts experience a great Boy Scout Resident Camp program, while older Scouts take on a High Adventure.
