MERIT BADGE AND PREREQUISITE LISTSMany merit badges offered at summer camp cannot be completed
within the one week session of resident camp. It can be frustrating for the
youth (and adult leaders) to return from a program area at summer camp with
only a partial fulfillment of merit badge requirements. History also shows that
youths receiving partials at summer camp are less likely to go on to complete
the merit badge in their home district than if they did the entire merit badge
at home. In order to prepare the youth for their merit badge experience at summer camp, The Simon Kenton Council Advancement Committee has adopted this uniform set of prerequisites for many of the merit badges offered at Simon Kenton Council summer camps. If the scout comes to camp with the prerequisites in hand, he CAN COMPLETE the merit badge at camp. If he comes with only some prerequisites, finishing the merit badge at camp will depend on the amount of time the staff has to see to his needs and the resources available at the particular camp. Some merit badges can be accomplished at summer camp with
pre-requisites. Not all camps offer all
merit badges included in this document, consult with individual camp directors for
the listing of merit badges available at the camp. Summer camps are not authorized by the
Advancement Committee to offer merit badges not included in this document. Scouts at all camps are required to complete ALL the requirements for each Merit Badge as listed in the current Boy Scout Requirement Book (#33215B), Rev. 2006. There are no alternate “Summer Camp” requirements. Current publication numbers and revision dates of the merit badge books to be used at summer camp are supplied for the merit badges listed in this document. Each Scout is expected to supply the correct Merit Badge pamphlet for each Merit Badge to be earned at a Simon Kenton Council summer camp. Please direct any questions you have regarding these prerequisites to the Simon Kenton Council Advancement Committee via your District Advancement Chair, or if you are not in this council, to the Simon Kenton Council Advancement Committee Chair. |
