Deliver the Promise

Deliver the Promise

Commit to Attend Camp

Camping is the highlight of any boy's Scouting experience; whether that camping is long term, short term, with his unit or with a provisional unit.  Camping is the "great adventure" promised to every Scout when he joins.  The pages of our handbooks fire a boy's imagination with the fun and adventure that is his in the outdoors.  It is our responsibility as leaders of today's youth to see that this promise does not go unfulfilled.

Wise parents and leaders know that camping plays an important part in their boys acquiring a good sense of values. They have only to listen to an experienced camper to realize the opportunities for self-expression and growth are unlimited.

Camping is wholesome, uplifting and beneficial both physically and mentally.  America now needs, and will need in the future, men who are physically and mentally equipped to handle complex problems of a rapidly changing, technical world.

Your unit committee has agreed in the signing of the charter agreement to "provide every boy with the opportunity to attend camp."  Since camping happens on a unit level in the Boy Scouts of America, it is essential that the unit committee be fully informed about the camping programs available through the Simon Kenton Council and that they accept the challenge to provide the best possible leadership and opportunities for outdoor adventure!

Camping is more than living in the outdoors.  It is a carefully designed character development living experience; a time of living adventure and fulfilling dreams for any boy. Camping is one of the biggest features that appeals to boys, and a great summer camp experiences is tops.

We must give every boy in every unit the opportunity to grow, learn by living, and to develop into tomorrow's leader.

Choose a Summer Camp

The Camping Promotion and Outdoor Program Committee of the Simon Kenton Council hopes that you will make three basic decisions about camp for next summer:

1.     Commit to providing a quality long-term camping experience for the Scouts in your unit.  Deliver the Promise.  Get your Scouts to camp!

2.     Recognize that an accredited camp, operated by a Council of the Boy Scouts of America, offers you and your Scouts the best opportunity to take advantage of multiple program opportunities in a safe and affordable manner.  Council-operated camps are under the leadership of personnel trained at BSA’s National Camping Schools.  We hope that you will choose to attend a council-operated camp.

3.     The Simon Kenton Council’s summer camps are among the best camps available in the country.  We believe that, and it shows in our camp programs.  We are not perfect by any means, but we are committed to making our camps the best for your unit.  We hope that you will choose to let us work with your unit leaders in making your camping experience the best that it can be.
