Community Service Opportunities

The following non-profits have submitted their information so unit leaders, parents and Scouts can consider them for service projects. Please contact the organization directly when looking for service opportunities.  Organizations may submit their information by emailing astiebler@skcbsa.org


Lifeline of Ohio

Description of service needed: Groups to be educated about the importance of organ donation, sharing the message with friends and family. The program is designed to allow Scouts to earn a patch by attending and event at Lifeline of Ohio, or by hosting a Lifeline of Ohio Community Educator at your next event. At the event Scouts will be educated about the urgent need for organs, information about how organs work through models, information on the transplant process. In addition, some events may feature a transplant recipient and/or a donor family member to share their story with organ and tissue donation. The presentation can be tailored for any Scouting age. Younger Scouts will enjoy the model organs and learning about organ functions. Older Scouts are interested in more of the Science behind organ donation.

The Salvation Army

Description of service needed: Groups to sponsor and help organize and recruit for area clothing drives.  Through clothing collection programs, you can assist with drives at schools and churches. Salvation Army will coordinate a Red Shield truck to help load up donated items.

The Salvation Army also has opportunities for older Scouts to volunteer and work with their Adult Rehabilitation Center. The Salvation Army Rehabilitation Center helps people reclaim their lives from alcohol and chemical dependencies.

American Red Cross

National Letter Writing Campaign to Support Our Troops

Continuing the BSA's long tradition of service and good turns, we will bring deeper purpose to the Celebrate Scouting stamp by sending letters and care packages to the military men and women serving our country overseas. Also included in this effort are the many veterans who have honorably served our country throughout the years.

Ash Seed Collection Initiative

America is losing its ash trees at an alarming rate. An invasive species, the emerald ash borer, has already destroyed millions of ash trees.  The loss of all of America’s ash trees is a real possibility. An effort is underway to gather seed from populations of native ash tree species nationwide.

Description of service needed:  You can assist this effort by collecting ash tree seeds and sending them to us for genetic preservation.
