Fourth
Annual Learning for Life Awards Banquet |
The fourth
annual Learning for Life Awards Banquet was held at Nationwide
Children’s Hospital on May 9, 2008. Approximately 200 people
attended. Learning for Life Staff and the Advisory Committee
recognized all volunteers involved with the programs including
school and business partnerships, Explorer students, and career
speakers.
Distinguished
awards were presented throughout the evening:
Learning for Life Adult Leadership Award - Detective Carol
Harper
Learning for Life Youth Leadership Award - Jeramey Knowlton and
Scott McPherson
William H. Spurgeon III Award - The Columbus Division of Fire
Russell C. Hill Award - Bishop Ready High School
National Exploring Excellence Awards - Delaware Police
Department and the Columbus Division of Police
Exploring with Excellence Award - Matt Scott
Community Leadership Award - Vern Brown and Nancy Whetstone.
Six Columbus
College of Art & Design Explorers received scholarships to
attend CCAD in the fall. The total amount distributed amongst
these seniors - $170,000! CCAD Scholarship recipients were
recognized at the banquet:
Taylor Hicks, Scott McPherson, Alan Smith, Elizabeth Vest, Clint
Jackson, and Madeline Jewell.
CCAD post
advisor, Sandy McPherson, Burgess & Niple post advisor, Brian
Moore, Grove City post advisor, Doug Olmstead, and The Ohio
State College of Veterinary Medicine post advisor, Alicia
Montgomery, were recognized for their leadership to the
Exploring Program as this is their last year as advisors.

Division of Police Explorer, Jeramey Knowlton shared his
Exploring experience with the audience.

Hilliard
Davidson High School Career Fair |
|
Learning for Life partnered with the Hilliard
Davidson High School to organize their first ever Career Fair. Over
70 employees from 50 companies throughout Central Ohio traveled to
Hilliard on January 16 to be part of this event. Over 1000 high
school students visited the career fair between 10am-2pm. Thank you
to the Hilliard Davidson Counseling Department and the Student
Renaissance Ambassadors for their participation.
