Service Projects

Project 1

Troop 1, Bainbridge did a great job improving trail for the Earl H. Barnhart Buzzard's Roost Preserve near Chillicothe, Ohio. Two men and five boys from the troop worked very hard in cold weather (16 to 38 degrees) to complete this project. They worked for seven hours with only about 45 minutes off for a quick tour of the preserve overlook, a visit to a salamander pool with wood frogs and Jefferson's salamanders under ice (egg masses only were visible), and lunch. They put down about four cubic yards of wood chips using wheel barrels and rakes. They also put in two eight inch drainage tiles. The adult leaders even removed (chain saw) a couple trees blocking
the trail due to the ice storm. The troop participated in a talk on the conservation purposes for the project-erosion control, small stream biota protection, public access and aesthetic improvement. The Conservation Committee is very proud of the work the troop put in helping to preserve our environment for years to come.
